Early news from the FootballCynic Statistical Centre (or Center as our spellchekker will have it)

For supporters of the mightier clubs, it is what they call a 'dead weekend'. And, it's even deader if you have English parents, as trips to play Andorra are hard to get excited about even if our ex-leader, Mr McLaren, told us after the last encounter there that our boys went on the field as boys and came off as men. What was he thinking? What was he taking? Presumably those playing again against Andorra may go on as men and come off as corpses this time if the aging analogy is to be taken up by Fabio.

As it's a sort of 'dead weekend' then, it's time to look at how the leagues are panning out. There are those who call this year's title race an 'open' one. One assumes they mean by this that two or, at best, four teams are in contention. However the Statistical Centre at FootballCynic HQ can reveal that the Premiership is the tightest division so far. Take a look at the facts. After 3 games, the Premiership has a span of 6 points between top and bottom - an average GWC (or Gap Widening Coefficient as the man in the street would call it) of 2.000. In the Championships, it leaps to a GWC of 2.250 after 4 games, an equal 2.000 for Division 1 and a huge 8.750 in Division 2. So maybe they are right, the Premiership is open. FootballCynic is sure any respectable bookmaker will still offer you decent odds on West Bromwich Albion to take the title.
