Mixed fortunes for the Ten to Watch
Well, it’s mixed fortunes for the ‘Ten to Watch’ – the worst ten performers up and down the country last year. Pick of the bunch is clearly Markyate who have already turned over four opponents in South Midlands League Division 2. Eton Wick meanwhile have got into winning ways quicker than normal this year, while AFC Wallingford, Merrow and Haughley United have all drawn their one and only league games. Cirencester United have also looked on the brighter side of life and came back from an exciting 7-4 defeat to Oxford City Nomads by defeating the high-flying Cheltenham Saracens. Marcham and Adur Athletic are yet to start their campaigns, but, if nothing else and as some consolation, Adur Athletic start at the top thanks to alphabetical order. However, it’s not such good news from Whitworth Valley where shipping 19 goals in four consecutive defeats makes it seem that 2008-9 will be as tough as 2007-8. Downton, meanwhile, have had 5 narrower defeats and are not too down yet, we would hope. Below - Markyate enjoy their fame and pose for the cameras.

Surely Newcastle are the team to watch. Time for an in depth on The Messiah by Football Cynic.
