Having the perfect home (with a pool)
You need to be over 25 to remember the good old days at Poole Town. Besides being Dorset Senior Cup winners and runners-up, it seems like a long time since Poole Town left the Southern League. Back in those days, who can forget Poole Town's Anglo-Italian Final in 1981 or their first round FA Cup draw at Watford? In the 1990's it all went wrong. A ground share with Hamworthy United dented their pride and the downward slide began. Now things are changing. This year, Poole Town have a perfect home record with 11 straight wins having scored 37 goals. Their next visitors Wimborne Town will be looking to upset the cider apple cart, but they will hope to plough on. Below, the train that linked Poole Town with Hamworthy. We apologise to the over 25 year old Poole Town fans who are offended by this.

Oh my - the great days. Yes we all rememeber losing 4-1 in Modena in the final of the Anglo Italian. What a day to remember. In the 11 years in which non League sides competed for this coveted trophy English sides only won once - and that was Sutton United. I never really did understand why every final was in Italy. But all I can say is that I WAS THERE when Poole Town played! It also means I am now very old! Good work, Football Cynic and more about non League teams please. FootballCynic writes: My research team tells me that Poole Town reached the final as they won two and lost two of their qualifying games - this was better than the other teams - Bridgend Town, Oxford City and Hungerford United. Great days, indeed.
