No Prima Donnas at Fisher Athletic

Fisher Athletic versus Eastleigh hardly sounds the most exciting game on a winter’s Wednesday evening, but it is, in fact, a landmark game. Fisher Athletic are on a bad run – 10 consecutive defeats – whereas Eastleigh are riding high in the Blue Square South Division. However, for the Eastleigh game only, Fisher Athletic will be managed by Donna Powell as a result of her brave efforts to raise £500 for the ailing club from Millwall territory. Donna will be the first female manager of a professional team. Donna will be like Guus Hiddink, as she also manages Red Lions Boys Club Under 11s.

Donna describes herself as no shrinking violet and will be changing tactics for her game in charge. The locals will be treated to no more of the long ball stuff as she changes the team to a 4-4-2 formation playing a passing game. Of course, Eastleigh can only look like mugs and are not happy. Director of football at Eastleigh, David Malone sees the whole thing as devaluing the league. However, David is sensitive enough to realise that he might sound like “a grumpy old man”. If she ends Fisher Athletic’s run, what happens next?
