Harpole: The Mystery Superstars

The most successful side this year in England is Harpole FC of the Northamptonshire Combinaton. They've only dropped points in two of their games this season with 1-1 draws at home to Heyford Athletic and Kislingbury. Away from home, Harpole have been unstoppable. Their results have not been crushing victories - mainly steady 2-0 and 3-0 wins, except for nine goal blitzes at Corby Madisons (sounds like the sort of team David Beckham will play for) and Stanion United.

To find more about this great club, FootballCynic took a visit to their website, but you are greeted with the message "This site is currently undergoing maintenance. We apologise for the inconvenience. Please try again later" and the only fact you find is that the club was founded in 1896. Searching further, Information Britain tells us that Harpole play on Harploe Playing Field - we doubt this, it seems unlikely that Harpole would have a playing field called Harploe. Pictures of the club are equally impossible to find. With some relief, FootballCynic found the Harpole village website. One can quickly learn that the village is six miles west of Northampton. You are also invited to email Robert Winters for comments and suggestions. To find out more about Harpole FC is a challenge though on the village website. Following the link called "Village Facilities", you have to scroll past information about the post office, pick your own fruit, parish council meetings, Sunday school, public houses, charities before you finally find the Harpole Playing Field mentioned. Underneath it, there is a list of activties - Football, tennis, cricket, children's play area. No, not a mention about the unbeatable Harpole FC.

And so, Harpole may have to remain a mystery club, but well done anyway. Whether an open top bus will be heading through the streets of Harpole remains unknown. All we do know is that the bus will be asked to drive slowly. An email has been sent to Mr Winters, of course - we will publish any reply.

A great effort this year as it has been the two previous season's where we also won both leagues and cups but this year has been something special undefeated has been a fantastic effort from all the players..(FootballCynic writes: Danny, it's great to hear from you - and congratulations to you and all your team at Harpole FC. I think another feature on Harpole is warranted).

Harpole were a successful side, no doubts there. But their glory has gone and only can be remembered by their pictures in a poor club house. (FootballCynic writes: Good to hear from Harpole. Let's hope the good days return soon. It looks as though Harpole are still OK though.)
