Regional Differences

Followers of Hartlepool United may be worrying about the coming season. At the top, their visits to Leicester City, Peterborough and Scunthorpe United are replaced by trips to southern opposition at Norwich City, Charlton Athletic and Southampton. It doesn't get any better for the northern teams as more central sides Northampton Town, Hereford United, Cheltenham Town and Crewe Alexandra are replaced by newly-promoted Brentford, Exeter City, Wycombe Wanderers and Gillingham.

And so, League One takes a huge lurch south meaning that cries of "Southern softies" will be echoing around Hartlepool United, Huddersfield Town, Leeds United, Oldham Athletic, Tranmere Rovers and Carlisle United for much of the season. Conversely, of course, chants of "you dirty northern bastards" will be bellowed at visiting fans from MK Dons. FootballCynic wishes those avid Hartlepool United fans, many hours of happy M1 driving, of course. But, remember, they have got the happy thought that in 2010-2011 they could be playing a division above Newcastle United.

The truth of the matter is that Northern teams are poor while the Midlands keeps getting better and better - except for Derby County of course (FootballCynic writes: I assume from your name that you are dentist from Leicester. West Brom, of course, went down and I guess you don't count Luton Town as Midlands).
