Dead Saturday approaches

The only dead Saturday of the whole year is approaching fast as football fans across the country resign themselves to a dead day for football. This week, we were spared from a blank Saturday by Millwall and Swindon Town (two clubs which draw a combined average of about 19,000) entertaining 73,000 punters at Wemb-er-ley. This coming Saturday, the options seem to be shopping at B&Q or going to the pub to discuss highly speculative transfer rumours/Rooney's latest injury scare/who England will meet in the semi finals of the World Cup etc.

For those who cannot do without a dose of football on a Saturday and do not subscribe to the tedium of MUTV or Chelsea TV, the international friendlies offer no more than a few crumbs of comfort. It's hard to imagine that Algeria v UAE is worth the effort of scouring the internet for a feed that freezes every 2 minutes and Romania v Honduras is only interesting because the opponents seem unlikely. English speakers may be tempted by the match between two English speaking nations played in another country where English is widely spoken, although it is one of 11 official languages. We refer, of course, to the game between USA and Australia in Johannesburg, although you could argue that USA citizens do not speak English and that both countries mistakenly refer to the beautiful game as soccer not football. FootballCynic is off to B&Q.

Below, a picture of the Cape Verde Islands team - where it is also another blank Saturday.

If yr defintion of dead means that england are not playing then the saturday after the usa game is also dead. Also if England got beaten it will be dead. (FootballCynic writes: Ryan, you are dead right, of course)
