Englesfield Green Rovers - a letter of resignation

When Englefield Green Rovers ceased to play at the end of the 2008-09 season it was a sad day. England had lost its only team containing six of the same letter. There are claimants such as Bishops Cleeve Reserves and Pewsey Vale Reserves, but FootballCynic has no time for teams made up of the stiffs.

We are left with a whole stack of teams with five of the same letter – Kidderminster Harriers (r), Chester Le Street Town (e), Dinnington Town (n), Erith & Belverdere (e), Old Woodstock Town (o), Ellesmere Rangers (e), Jarrow Roofing Baldon CA (o), Norton & Stockton Ancients (n), Peacehaven & Telscombe (e), Pelsall Villa (l), Peterborough Northern Star (r), Staveley Miners Welfare (e), Wootton Bassett Town (t), Exeter Civic Service (e), Heaton Stannington (n), Orchard Park Rangers (r), Seaton Delaval Amateurs (a) and Woodcote & Stoke Row (o). And, the winners? Well, it’s a toss-up between Pelsall Villa with only 12 letters and Wootton Bassett Town, an amusing name, but also with three consecutive t’s. If push comes to shove, FootballCynic would vote for Pelsall Villa – if only because they play at ‘The Bush’ near Walsall.
