Warking on water

Mention the name Wark and you will either think of the BBC presenter, Kirsty, who claims to earn less than £500,000 per year, or, if you are over 30, you might remember John Wark of Ipswich Town, Liverpool and Middlesbrough - well, Middlesbrough, perhaps, if you are a football anorak.

However, if you live in Northumberland, you might be a supporter of Wark Football Club, a side that is just below half way in Northern Aliiance Premier Division. On Saturday, they defeated Hebburn Reyrolle 2-1 in the 3rd round of the Kicks Leisure George Dobbins League Cup and now could face Cullercoats in the next round. Cullercoats, of course, must not be confused with Cullercoats Custom Planet, which is a completely different team.

If you're thinking of going to Wark, the club websiite has one page - it's a rather sparse page. It has the heading "Wark football club", two white snooker balls on a blue background in the bottom corners and then the following text: "This is Wark football club. There is a big field where football and cricket is played. Children play football in the bottom corner of the field and little children can play in the park. In the clubhouse, discos, parties, darts competitions and prize giving are held and people can drink from the bar. There is also a stage." Well, what more did you want to know?

Ipswich fan in peace. John Wark was one of the all time greats. Everyone underated him until he went to Liverpool. In fact, Ipswich have always been an underated club - except now!!! (FootballCynic writes: Well, thank you for the warning. FootballCynic wasn't ready for an Ipswich fan in peace. FootballCynic thinks you should go to Wark and see them play. Imagine 11 John Warks on the pitch)
