Premiership Clusters
Take a look at the Premiership league table. The first thing that most people notice is that “The Four Ws” (West Ham United, West Bromwich Albion, Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers) occupy the bottom four places – now, that would have been worth a bet of at least three tenners and pay for overpriced opera tickets. Contrary to the hopes of our friendly poster, Baggiepuss, it seems that early season optimism at West Bromwich Albion has faded. Indeed, FootballCynic predicted doom and gloom for The Four Ws in an article that appeared in August (http://footballcynic.com/2010/08/21/blackpool-rocking.aspx).
But, let’s look further as there are plenty of other clusters. If you look a little harder, the three Birmingham-based sides, West Bromwich Albion, Birmingham City and Aston Villa occupy places 15th to 17th.
Moving up the table, the two teams with the shortest names, Fulham and Everton are in 13th and 14th place. Then, we see that the two ‘Blacks’, Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers sit next to each other in 11th and 12th place.
Occupying 7th to 10th are the stripes – Sunderland, Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and Stoke City. OK, so Bolton Wanderers only sneak into this pack because last season they wore a shirt with very thin black and white stripes at the bottom of their shirt.
This just leaves the top six and, of course, they are just that – The Top Six and not worthy of further comment and far too boring to discuss further.
FootballCynic’s dream is that the table would finish in alphabetical order – something Gerard Houllier would can only fantasise about. The Four Ws though are doing their bit to achieve this, which would mean a lucky escape for West Bromwich Albion and Baggiepuss.

Brilliant obserrvations! Of cos the top six are just supported by plastic fans. As if anyone admits to having a friend that supports one of the top 6.
