Wenger agrees to use semaphore

Following a charge of improper conduct by UEFA, Arsene Wenger has decided to use semaphore to address referees in future as it is less likely to offend. Below, he is pictured practising semaphore in preparation of the arrival of the semaphore flags that he has bought on EBay. Robin van Persie’s new hearing aid, bought from the same online store, is also expected to arrive within the next few days.

You are right, Mr Cynic, it is rather strange how this word has now become common parlance just after it has been banned - rather like a posthumous award to snoods, if you will.

In the Online Dictionary, it gives us four definitions:-

    1) A headband formerly worn by unmarried women in Northern England and Scotland.
    2) A headband worn by women
    3) A netlike or part of hat or something that covers the back of a woman's hair
    4) The pendulous skin over the beak of a turkey

Now, if we pursue this further and look at the definition of turkey, we soon find one that tells us that it is a person who is naive, stupid or inept.

Now, I understand, but I was never aware women in the North of England and Scotland had to discard their snoods for some reason when they were betrothed. Maybe, I missed something in my youth - I should have sought young ladies who were wearing snoods and hence available.

I will not report this bit back to Lady Knobhead for fear she will take it the wrong way.

(FootballCynic writes: So, poor old Tevez is a turkey unless he is trying to be an unmarried northerner. Surely not. Posted on the wong thread, by the way, your Lordship, but Arsene won't mind)

Oh dear, that makes me a turkey, I guess

I've been away in the sun and now I come back to this Lord Knobhead. I'm a single northern woman and my mother never told me to wear a headband so that men would know that I am unmarried. I'm going with a friend to see Sheff Wednesday soon (no one else will go!), so I might just wear a snood to see whether I make a catch. (FootballCynic writes: FootballCynic is not sure what you expect to catch at Sheffield Wednesday. Wearing a snood might make it more fun though)
